Writings & Publications
I have written and published two books on mining and agriculture and their relationships
to the West’s limited water resources.
to the West’s limited water resources.
Wounding the West: Montana, Mining and the Environment, published by University of Nebraska Press in 2000. It is a detailed environmental history of a silver-lead-zinc mine that addresses mining history and technology, water quality degradation, fishery and habitat fragmentation, and federal and state hard rock mining laws and policies.

NEW in 2021!My latest publication, Water and Agriculture in Colorado and the American West is an in-depth environmental history of agricultural practices and water rights published by University of Nevada Press in June 2021. The book focuses on the irrigation history and practices in southern Colorado’s San Luis Valley and how they affect the Rio Grande, as well as provides an overview of irrigated agriculture and water laws in the American West.
